BiographyIn 1900 Wijdeveld went to work for architect P. J. H. Cuypers. From 1905 onwards he travelled to England, Germany, France, and the United States and made contact with figures including Amédée Ozenfant, Erich Mendelsohn, and Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1918, he became the first editor of the journal 'Wendingen' and began designing interiors, exhibition layouts, and housing in Amsterdam. From the 1920s he tried to set up an international working community of artists, which lasted a short while in the Elckerlyc House in Lage Vuursche (1934-1935), built by Wijdeveld. Wijdveld was particularly interested in public housing and exhibitions spaces. He was known for his utopian and romantic sentiment and esteemed for being a spirited proponent of architectural culture. Dutch architect. [Getty ULAN]
