Label TextHarriet Whitney Frishmuth’s sculpture expresses the fluid motion of a young female dancer, buoyantly leaping forward with limbs fully extended. Frishmuth was close friends with her model, the professional dancer Desha Delteil. The sculpture shows the beauty of both Delteil’s agile movement and Frishmuth’s mastery of bronze. Though the sculpture weighs almost 600 pounds, it balances on just a few square inches at the ball of the figure’s right foot.
