Label TextChihuly’s Reeds are tall blown glass rods which the artist often inserts into natural surroundings. To create the long, tubular shape, one glassblower is elevated in a lift and blows into a pipe, while another pulls the glass toward the ground.

The title evokes the Ozarks. Although the work originated in Nuutajarvi, Finland, there are similarities between the native landscape around the museum and the woods around the village where the work was conceived. The creek bed is an ideal host for the sparkling blue forms that conjure the essence of water as they are nestled into the ravine.
