Label TextFlorine Stettheimer made this painting as a gift for Alfred Stieglitz. Before seeing the portrait, Georgia O’Keeffe wrote to Stettheimer in 1928: "I am very curious about it. He is so many contradictory things that I can't help wondering what you chose to put down. You undoubtedly don't see him as I do; no reason why you should.”
Stettheimer replied: “I don't think I have painted your special Stieglitz. I imagine I tried to do his own special Stieglitz, but probably I only achieved my special Stieglitz.”
Stettheimer respondió: “No creo haber pintado a tu Stieglitz particular.
