Not on viewLabel TextSuspended by a string looped around a single screw and cascading down towards the ground, this painting breaks from the standard, rectangular form. Folding and creasing the canvas while painting it, Sam Gilliam stained the fabric in some areas only to add streaks of bright yellow paint across the top, providing an array of different textures and effects. Paired with undulating curves, Gilliam creates a dynamic work that challenges the accepted tradition that painting hang flat against a wall.
Esta pintura rompe con la forma rectangular estándar al colgar de una cuerda enrollada alrededor de un único tornillo para caer, suelta, hacia el piso. Sam Gilliam plegó y arrugó el lienzo mientras lo pintaba, tiñó la tela en algunas áreas y añadió rayas de pintura color amarillo brillante en la parte superior, lo cual aporta una serie de texturas y efectos diferentes. Esto, sumado a las curvas ondulantes, crea una obra dinámica que cuestiona la concepción tradicional de que una pintura debe colgar, plana, sobre una pared.
