Label TextIn his journal, Jervis McEntee wrote: “Some people call my landscapes gloomy and disagreeable… But this is a mistake... Nature is not sad to me but quiet, pensive, restful.” In this painting he conveyed the calmness of winter. Broad expanses of snow and sky fill the canvas, while ice skaters on the frozen pond show one way to make the most of frigid weather.

En su diario, Jervis McEntee escribió: “Hay quienes piensan que mis paisajes son sombríos y desapacibles… pero están equivocados… Para mí, la naturaleza no está triste sino callada, pensativa, serena.” En esta pintura, transmite la serenidad del invierno. El cielo y la nieve se expanden ampliamente en el lienzo, mientras que los patinadores de hielo se deslizan sobre el estanque congelado para disfrutar de este clima helado.
