Label TextNumerous faces emerge from dripped black and white paint in Janet Sobel’s Heavenly Sympathy. She emphasized one in particular: the black-outlined, yellow-tinted face at the top of the work. Sobel repeatedly poured white paint in circles that swirl and dissipate down the canvas. Born in present-day Ukraine, Sobel began painting later in life as a means of self-expression after she settled and raised her family in New York.
