Label TextI want a president speaks to the tenuous political climate of the United States in which a desire for visibility and representation is at odds with a desire for border security and separatism. Zoe Leonard created this work in 1992, the year that poet Eileen Myles ran for president as an independent candidate alongside George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot. In 2016, Leonard revisited I want a president—both as public art and as a limited edition print—considering the following question: What is different today, and what remains the same?
