On View
Not on viewLabel TextCurrier’s commonplace subjects- including two shiny apples and a pair of scissors alongside a budding plant and an empty glass vessel- appear in casual disarray on the tabletop. A cassette tape resting among these objects hints at the mid-1980s, when this work was created.
A native of Kentucky, Currier makes contemporary still lifes, or images of everyday objects, that are carefully rendered for the viewer’s inspection and delight. Here, Currier nods to historical still lifes, which often emphasize the fleeting nature of existence by picturing music, food, and other transient and sensual experiences.
