Label TextIn this photograph, the artist Eyakem Gulilat (right panel) and fellow artist Michael Elizondo Jr. (left panel) flank the land they share—the prairie of what is now known as Oklahoma. Both Gulilat and Elizondo, Jr. wear traditional Ethiopian clothing. Gulilat immigrated to the United States from Ethiopia, and Elizondo, Jr., an enrolled member of the Southern Cheyenne Tribe, is of Kaw and Chumash descent. Their collaboration blurs the lines between photographer and subject to question assumptions about land and belonging and to ask how peoples’ relationships to the land are determined.
En esta fotografía, el artista Eyakem Gulilat (panel derecho) y su colega, el artista Michael Elizondo Jr. (panel izquierdo) flanquean la tierra que comparten, la pradera de lo que hoy se conoce como Oklahoma.
