Label TextA lone deer stand rests quietly among the forest flora in rural Wisconsin. Part of a series of deer stand photographs by Jason Vaughn, these structures signal an interesting relationship with nature. The hunters who use them retreat to the woods to spend silent hours intensely focused on the sights and sounds of the natural world. The man-made stands are meant to insulate hunters from natural elements, yet are also designed to disappear, camouflaged as part of the forest itself. Fittingly, in this photograph, it is unclear whether the stand is occupied by a watchful hunter or empty and simply bearing silent witness to its surroundings.
