Label TextRichard Estes’s natural landscapes are often based on his travels to remote locations and frequently underscore the wonder of nature. Originally known for painting New York City urban scenes, around 2000 he began also painting nature. Estes brought to his new vistas a sustained interest in Photorealism, a style that mimics the precision and light effects of photography. He was one of several American painters in the 1970s who created highly realistic paintings of otherwise commonplace subjects, rendered with incredible care.
