Label TextDe Scott Evans’s painting is a prime example of his trompe l’oeil (“fool the eye”) paintings. The arrangement is deliberately simple: the drinking glass that serves as a modest container for the flowers hangs askew from a nail on the wall. The artist’s signature, in the pseudonym S. S. David, appears on a scrap of paper nailed to the wooden panel beneath the precarious bouquet, at risk of being washed away.
