Label TextPaul Cézanne frequently depicted nude figures lounging in a landscape. The French artist used this subject to explore themes of leisure, imagining an escape into nature. The scene also provided an avenue to experiment with new styles and techniques, given the challenge of depicting the human body in multiple poses within a larger setting.

Les baigneurs was one of his first works exhibited in the US, shown at Alfred Stieglitz’s New York gallery in 1910.
