Label TextFrom 1886 to 1889, Childe Hassam studied art in Paris. There he was entranced by the everyday life of the capital city and by Impressionism, the new French style of painting, which was becoming popular at the time. Here, Hassam captures a Paris boulevard at a specific moment, showing his emerging Impressionist interest in both the changing quality of light and modern urban life. The dusky atmosphere and rising moon indicate the time of day, while the fallen autumn leaves show the change of seasons.
