Label TextAfter struggling for years to find his medium, Dan Flavin was liberated by fluorescent light. Flavin transforms commonplace materials associated with industrial and commercial use into the stuff of art. He experimented relentlessly with the way the hues of commercially-available lights combined with specific geometry to create new perceptions of color and space. The four colors of the bulbs in Untitled—pink, daylight, cool white, and yellow—activate the room in a field of light: the wall, floor, ceiling, and shadows become an integral part of the work.

Flavin dedicated this work to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Inch, who were Los Angeles-based collectors and early supporters of his work.
