Label TextAugustus Saint-Gaudens energized American sculpture with a more naturalistic approach, making his figures seem lively and real. This contrasted with the more polished Neoclassical style of sculpture, which had been very popular. Anne Page’s strong, yet elegantly curved jawline and prominent nose appealed to Saint-Gaudens. Page, a Boston socialite, was a friend and model to a number of artists.
