Label TextAndy Warhol’s portrait of Dolly Parton reveals the effects of mass media and celebrity culture in the twentieth century. The Pop artist was drawn to Parton’s larger-than-life persona, as the country music singer also starred in movies and television. His portrait exaggerates her iconic features instead of trying to capture an “authentic” inner self. Her bright eyeshadow, lipstick, and earrings stand out, while her voluminous platinum curls merge with (and nearly fill) the background.
