Label TextBy the time John Mix Stanley encountered Blackfeet Indians in present-day Montana in the 1850s, the United States was rapidly expanding westward, impacting traditional ways of life. Stanley befriended and painted many Plains Indians through his extensive travels in the American West. Eventually, he created a gallery of more than 150 portraits and scenes like The Buffalo Hunt.
