Label TextThis work incorporates slogans from two different protests. “Agua is life” is the Spanish translation of “water is life,” a phrase used by water protectors in Standing Rock. “No ice” refers to ICE, US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, and their deportation of border crossers seeking asylum. Using both phrases, Martinez links US Indigenous-led protests to Latinx movements.
