Label TextBrightly lit images of the US flag and map appear with declarations “THIS IS NOT AMERICA” and “THIS IS NOT AMERICA’S FLAG.” Then, a map of North and South America spins across the screen, challenging why the term “America” is often used to refer only to the United States—excluding the rest of the Americas. Initially designed for a 15-hour looped display in Times Square, Alfredo Jaar created this digital animation during ongoing US interventions in South America and the Caribbean, including Grenada, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.

Imágenes intensamente iluminadas de la bandera y el mapa de los Estados Unidos aparecen junto a las declaraciones “THIS IS NOT AMERICA” (ESTO NO ES AMÉRICA) y “THIS IS NOT AMERICA’S FLAG” (ESTA NO ES LA BANDERA DE AMÉRICA).
